At SAA, we acknowledge that flight Awards and Upgrade Awards are the most popular use of your hard earned Miles. Over the years, SAA has kept Award levels revisions to a minimum by closely monitoring the costs of providing such Awards.
Further, SAA has routinely benchmarked its Voyager offering to ensure that we match or at best offer a better product than that of our competitors.

For the first time since April 2006, SAA is revising its Voyager Award Chart with a new Award Chart coming into effect on 15 April 2011. Effective from this date, SAA will introduce a modest increase for flight Awards and a more notable increase for Upgrade Awards. Given that the current International Upgrade Award levels are very low, the increase in this regard will be higher. Ultimately, we believe that you will continue to view our Voyager Awards favourably and that our offering will remain competitive compared to other major frequent traveller programmes.
We would like you, our valued Voyager member, to note that you have an opportunity to redeem your desired Award from the current Award Chart prior to 15 April 2011.
Below is an advance look at the SAA Award Chart revisions and on average, the following can be expected in our new SAA Award Chart:

  • MileageKeeper Awards will increase by 6%
  • AnyDay Awards for Domestic and Regional flights will increase on average by 14%
  • AnyDay Awards for International flights will increase between 11% to 28%
  • Upgrade Awards will increase by approximately 14%, 12% and 35% for Domestic, Regional and International respectively
  • Accra and Dakar have been added to the region "Travel between Southern Africa and Africa 2"

Furthermore, we are pleased to advise you that we will continue to discount Awards with 3% should you request your SAA Award directly from our website, www.flysaa.com. In addition, we will continue to accept Y, B, M and K Economy Class fares as the qualifying fare classes for Upgrade Awards.

We know that from time to time, members feel that there just doesn't seem to be enough redemption seats.
To address this challenge we are delighted to introduce the SuperPlus Award. A new SuperPlus Award will be introduced effective from 15 April 2011 and will be applicable to SAA operated flights only. This will exclude codeshare, SA Express and Airlink flights.

Our intention in this regard is to provide our valued Voyager members with access to many more seats in Economy Class. The SuperPlus Award will give you access to 25 - 30% of our total capacity.
We hope you'll agree that SuperPlus Awards are a \'win-win\' solution that will help you plan your Award travel with less frustration and concern about obtaining seats on your preferred travel dates.

As you may be aware, the validity period for Award tickets changed effective 1 October 2010. Some Voyager members are still inquiring with regard to the validity period and hence we deemed it necessary to highlight the key aspects in this regard.
Award tickets must be booked & ticketed within 6 months from the date of your award certificate issuing date. Your travel dates however, can be outside this 6 month window period. SAA Award tickets are valid for 18 months from the date of issue.

All travel must be completed on or before the anniversary date of 18 months. Travel date changes can be made to an AnyDay Award ticket within the 18 months from date of issue ~ no change fee will be levied. However, the original ticket expiry date will remain. For MileageKeeper and SuperPlus Awards, travel date changes can be made at a charge of R185. The change fee is not applicable to Lifetime Platinum, Platinum and Platinum Elect members.
We value your preferential support of SAA via your participation in Voyager and we look forward to serving you often and well during your travels in the coming months and years. Towards that objective be sure to follow our communications regarding how we'll be making more non-air Awards available to you.
With warm regards,
FIRST TRAVEL on behalf of
The SAA Voyager Team
